Room Parent FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
Is a room mom the same as PTO?
No. Room mom or room parent is a classroom job. PTO or PTA is the school parent organization. One person can do both. Most people should not have to.
Does every school have a room parent?
No. Some schools use class coordinators, room reps, or a PTO classroom chair. The work is the same: one class, one teacher, a finite list of events.
Who runs the class party?
The teacher's rules, then the room parent. PTO may fund or set building-wide food rules. They usually do not book the inflatable for room 14.
Can a dad be a room parent?
Yes. The clipboard does not care. If you have a truck and a folding table, you are already overqualified.
What should a PTO send classroom volunteers in week one?
How you will communicate, what you actually need, and permission to say no. The Volunteer Welcome Note is that letter.
What is I Survived Room Parent?
A room parent is a classroom job. PTO and PTA are the school parent organization. We make free one-page tools and merch for the people who said yes to the clipboard. The kit is optional. The jokes are not.
